Artist of the Week – April Hague

This week’s artist spotlight comes with an added twist….

April Hague is an artist and art teacher based in Mount Gambier. Her arts practice is varied and incorporates portraiture work, figurative art, augmented reality, design and even large-scale mural production. She exhibits regularly both in the South-East and Adelaide and in 2018 was the recipient of the Minister’s Award for Arts Education (Secondary).

The print we have for sale in the Riddoch shop is titled ‘Tapestry’ and was awarded the Wattle Range Art Prize Mayoral Award.

April’s public work around Mount Gambier which is often done in collaboration with Charlene Riley includes work with the Gordon Education Centre, Bay Blue Espresso, Montebello Skate Park at Sutton Reserve, Expresso Eatery, and most recently the mural at Badenoch’s deli.

Her workshops with the Riddoch have included a highly successful Portraiture for Beginners and April is one of the facilitators at our regular Life Drawing sessions.

And the twist is that April will be doing a social media takeover for a week in May!  Starting May 3rd April will be posting on Riddoch’s Instagram and Facebook, giving us an exclusive insight into her home studio and practices. Hear about her favourite materials, why she loves what she does, and tour Mount Gambier as she takes us on a journey to view her public works.

This takeover will culminate with a special one hour live Facebook event on Friday 8th May.  Keep watching our social channels for more, and follow the hashtag #riddochathome
